2026 mileage deduction calculator
If you drive to your customers, those miles add up. For many mobile businesses, mileage is one of the biggest write-offs, and also one of the easiest to lose because nobody wrote the miles down.

Rates from the IRS: https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/standard-mileage-rates
This is a simplified estimate, not tax advice. It uses the IRS 2026 business standard mileage rates and only the miles you enter. Whether you can use the standard rate, and which miles qualify, depends on your situation. Keep a mileage log and consult a tax professional.
Example: 3,000 business miles in the first half (3,000 × $0.725 = $2,175) + 3,000 in the second half (3,000 × $0.76 = $2,280) = $4,455 estimated deduction.
The 2026 IRS rates
The IRS changed the business standard mileage rate partway through 2026:
- January 1 – June 30, 2026: 72.5 cents per mile
- July 1 – December 31, 2026: 76 cents per mile
Source: IRS, Standard mileage rates, https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/standard-mileage-rates
Since the rate changed mid-year, this calculator asks for your miles in each half separately.
How this is calculated
Miles driven for business from January through June are multiplied by $0.725. Miles from July through December are multiplied by $0.76. The two amounts are added together. That total is your estimated standard mileage deduction. It isn't money back. It lowers the profit you're taxed on.
Keep a mileage log
The IRS expects records for the miles you claim, such as dates, where you went, why, and how far. A number you guess at in April is hard to back up. Writing it down as you go is much easier. Commuting and personal miles generally don't count, and the standard rate has its own rules, so check with a tax professional about what applies to you.
